I arrived in Sydney with great excitement, as I had been wanting to visit Australia for over a decade.

Though always at the forefront of my thoughts as an appealing and exotic destination, when I began my international Starbucking in earnest, Europe always seemed more cost-effective. I did make two trips to the Pacific, but at those times the fares to Hong Kong and Japan were significantly cheaper. But finally, I could wait no longer--I had been working fourteen months and saved up the money, and Australia beckoned.

How our store was affected by the Brisbane floods

It all began with the city rising to a panic level on Tuesday lunchtime as whispers went around that the city was in imminent danger. Instead of all running home and leaving each other, Sonya took Alex home as he was evacuated and she didn’t feel right leaving him at an evacuation centre, where he wouldn’t have known anybody. He then spent the next 3 nights on her couch.
